UNITED HEALTH ORGANIZATION ADDS

PROJECT HEALTHY LIVING BONUS SITES

DETROIT, MI – United Health Organization (UHO), a non-profit group that coordinates body wellness checks and community-wide health screenings, revised its spring schedule this week. Project Healthy Living (formerly known as Health-o-Rama) is slated to add bonus sites at churches and malls in Wayne, Washtenaw and Macomb Counties. United Health Organization (UHO) and Wayne County Community Health Department will host a Project Healthy Living site April 27 through April 29 at the Southland Mall located at 23000 Eureka Road in Taylor. The site’s hours of operation on Monday and Tuesday run from

"The community’s demand for health screening services is overwhelming,” said Ifetayo B. Johnson, Executive Director of UHO and Project Healthy Living. She added that the organization’s hotline has been flooded with calls from persons seeking help finding health care and screening services in the area.  The first 100 Wayne County residents who report to the Southland site on Monday, April 27 will receive the basic blood test and analysis free, courtesy of Patient Care Management Systems (PCMS) and Wayne County Health Choice. The estimated value of the basic blood test and analysis is $450 - $600.

“We want to make sure that people don’t neglect their health during this time of economic stress,” said Johnson. She added that UHO is instituting a price freeze on low-cost blood screenings and other services; UHO’s fees typically cost a fraction of the retail value.

All Project Healthy Living events are free and open to the public. Many of the basic screenings for obesity, hypertension, vision and hearing are free. This year, for a nominal cost, new blood screenings for diabetes, hepatitis B, vitamin D deficiency, glucose levels, and kidney and liver function will also be offered. Other low-cost health screenings measure participant’s risk for H. Pylori, stroke, heart attack and low bone density. Lab services are provided by Quest Diagnostic Laboratories. Persons must be at least 18 years of age to participate, or be accompanied by a guardian.

Strategic partners in the production of the 2009 season include: Community Health Care Resources, Rosedale Park Baptist Church, Patient Care Management Systems/ Wayne County Health Choice, Wayne County Community Health and the Michigan Cover the Uninsured Network consortium. Media champions include WXYZ-TV Ch. 7, Comcast Cable, and Radio One.
